Sage (1922) |
Just south of the Bethlehem-Woodbury town line and the aptly named Bethwood Lane, this milestone remains erect, though somewhat left-leaning, with its lettering still distinguishable. Sage described the inscription as “a little hard to trace,” and Isham said “There are no letters.” No plaque was found, although Isham stated that a marker existed. The earlier photographs show the stone sitting somewhat higher in the ground, at a similar angle. The Isham report identifies this as #11, with a note that “There is a possibility that the stone was really #10. Inspection of the visible inscription and calculation of the mileage from Milestone IX is persuasive that this is correctly identified as Milestone X.
